What We Believe

What We Believe

We maintain and support doctrinal teaching on which there has been agreement

among the branches of the great historic Christian faiths.

Statement of Faith of New Fire for Christ

1.

There is one eternal God, who exists in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

2.

Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He is fully man and fully God, united in one person forever. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, died for our sins on the cross, was buried, and rose bodily from the dead after three days, after which He appeared to many witnesses. Christ ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

3.

The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, imparts new life to those who put their faith in Christ, baptizes them (I Cor. 12:13), indwells them and seals them, and glorifies Christ. He fills and empowers them who yield their lives to Him by faith. The Holy Spirit gives various gifts to the body of Christ, to build up the body for God's glory.

4.

The Bible is God's word, infallible and inerrant in the original manuscripts, composed of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. The Bible is the supreme and final authority on all matters about which it speaks.

5.

Man (i.e. man & woman) was created in the image of God. Through his sin and rebellion against God, he was bought under God's judgement and the sentence of death. Because of man's sin, he is corrupt and unable to please God. Every man is lost apart from God's saving grace through Jesus Christ.

6.

Man is saved by faith (trust) in Jesus Christ, not on the basis of human works or goodness (Eph. 2:8-9). Those who are saved are "born again" into the kingdom of God (John 3:3,7), and become new creatures (II Cor. 5:17).

7.

Jesus Christ is the head of the church, which is made up of all those who have been redeemed through faith in Him. The church is not a physical building, but the body of believers in whom Christ dwells through the Holy Spirit. This church is manifested locally in congregations of believers who meet together as Christ commands, to "consider one another to provoke [each other] to love and good works" (Heb. 10:24).

8.

At his physical death, the believer enters into eternal fellowship with the Lord in heaven, while the unbeliever is judged and enters into eternal separation from God in hell.

9.

Jesus Christ will return to earth personally and bodily to reign over the world at the end of time.

10.

The Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to be witnesses to Him (Acts 1:8), and to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19-20). Our commitment to obey the Great Commission requires that all personal ambitions be surrendered in a total commitment to Jesus Christ and His work in the world.

Standards of Integrity for New Fire for Christ

We as a team at New Fire commit ourselves to the following standards, in order to uphold the integrity of the God-ordained work of the evangelistic team and of mass evangelism and discipleship.

  • Accountability

Our President, to whom the staff report, reports to the Board of Directors, composed of godly Christians who are leaders in their own professions. The Board of Directors periodically reviews the goals, activities, finances, and the results of the ministry, to focus on reaching as many as possible for Christ around the world.

  • Money

We are committed to financial transparency and accountability at New Fire. Our Board of Directors oversees and approves the salaries for staff members, which generally match the salaries/salary scales of other, similar parachurch organizations (such as Campus Crusade for Christ). Full-time staff are not allowed to receive wages/pay from other sources. The magnitude of the work God has entrusted to us does not leave us the time for other business.

We specifically ask every member of our evangelistic Team to 1) give generously and 2) live moderately, doing all things for the sake of the gospel. At New Fire all contributions, "love offerings," and honoraria are given to the ministry, not to increase the salary of the staff member who receives them.

  • Honesty

Some evangelists (as well as pastors) have been prone to exaggerate attendance, numbers of people coming to Christ, decisions to receive Christ (vs. general "altar calls" for recommitments by Christians), etc. As a Team our commitment is to report as accurately as possible what God has done, and to give Him alone all the credit!

  • The Local Church

Many churches and Christians do not understand the essential role of the evangelist in building the church and fulfilling the Great Commission. This is tragic, because millions who could be won by churches working with evangelists will be lost if this historic partnership is not renewed. We seek to build up the local church. We work with many churches around the world to: 1) build strong, growing churches through reaching the lost and leading these new believers to join good churches, and 2) start new churches in unreached areas of the world.

  • Sexual Purity

While encouraging the expression of warm relationships (hugs, high fives, etc.), in light of accusations of immoral sexual or even homosexual behavior by leaders, we will avoid any behavior which could be construed as sexually inappropriate. We are committed to being sexually pure and above reproach.

  • The Office of the Evangelist

The Bible says, "And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-12). Evangelists have a unique gift which most pastors and missionaries do not have. This is why God has called evangelists to mobilize the body of Christ to reach far more people for Christ than can be reached in any other way.

Nearly a third of the book of Acts, the history of the early church, is about "mass evangelism," the public proclamation of the gospel to large numbers of people (Acts chapters 2,3,7,10,13,14,17,22,26). Mass evangelism and discipleship are an essential part of God's plan to reach the world, both in countries where the gospel has been preached (Acts 3) and in "unreached countries" (Acts 14,17).
